You can have a deeper understanding of what motivation is by learning about the effects of the opposite situation which is: a lack of motivation. What happens when you are not properly motivated? Will you be able to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself? Will you have the ability to focus and point your actions towards achieving success? Will you experience personal satisfaction upon reaching your goals? All of these may not be possible if there is a lack of motivation.
First, let us go back to the meaning of motivation. This is the reason behind a person’s action. If he commits a crime, there should be a motivation behind it. If he works doubly hard in a particular job, there is a motivation behind that. If he gets engaged in a big fight with a friend, a colleague or a family member, there is surely a reason behind his actions.
When taken positively, motivation can be the driving force behind a person’s actions to achieve his or her goal in life. These goals may be short term or long term, but the important thing to remember is that motivation is the reason behind the action that one takes to achieve a particular goal.
Now, when you go back to the consequences when there is a lack of motivation, you can easily conclude that there will be no sense of direction. If there is a lack of motivation to do good in school or with the job that you do, you will not be able to advance. If there is a lack of motivation, you will not be able to maximize your potential as a person and you cannot make use of the skills and the intelligence that you have to advance in the workplace. If there is a lack of motivation, you will just keep on doing the negative things that you are used to because there is no ‘heavy’ reason why you should change for the better in the first place. Thus, your sense of well-being will not improve, you will have no sense of direction and purpose about life in general, and your actions will basically be meaningless and seemingly without worth.
With all the disadvantages of having a lack of motivation, then it is high time that you look for something that will give purpose and direction to your life. Once you are well- motivated, you will be able to enjoy more the fruits of your labor and you will have a better chance of enjoying life because it is enriched with a renewed sense of purpose since you are properly and positively motivated.

If you have not heard of the term mind mapping yet, now is a good time to learn about it. You will certainly be missing out on a lot of things if you are still using the old
‘listing’ technique or taking down notes when studying, mapping out a plan or drafting an outline for a project at school or at work.
Not only does mind mapping eliminate the need for tedious lists, but it also works the same way that the human brain works, so coming up with a mind map or concept map is a breeze for anybody who wants to try it out.
So how does mind mapping work? This technique involves the illustration of ideas on paper. Think of it as literally drawing a ‘map’ of what you are actually thinking.
First, what you need to do is write in the center of the paper a word which represents the main theme or central idea. From that one word, you can think of other words associated with this central idea which can be connected to the main word with the use of branches. A branch from the main theme could have a sub-branch which is another word associated with the keyword, and so on – let the process evolve from there.
Once the entire paper is filled out with your ideas, the entire illustration will merge into a whole, which you can easily remember, picture in your mind and understand.
Now that you have a basic idea of what mind mapping is, take a look at the numerous benefits of mind mapping:
• You can save a lot of time and effort when using the mind mapping technique, instead of the traditional ‘listing’ method.
If you are fond of using itemized lists when taking down notes from a lecture, or even planning a vacation trip – imagine the amount of time and effort that you will save if you will use mind mapping instead. With mind mapping, you can eliminate the unnecessary details and just concentrate on what is important to you.
• Mind maps are easier to understand and remember.
This is especially applicable for students who are studying for an exam. Use mind mapping during a lecture, and you will find that the illustration will help you remember facts better, rather than relying on the traditional notes. This is because it will be easier for you to imagine an illustration rather than memorize a bunch of lists about the topic discussed.
With mind mapping, you can use your brain to its utmost potential and enjoy the advantages of having a better time at planning, organizing your thoughts, remembering facts and analyzing data – skills that you can apply both at work and in your home life.

Natural Healing is simpler than most people realize – it is the practice of
encouraging your body to heal itself of illness. Traditional Western medicine differs from Natural Healing in that it relies on invasive interventions (i.e. surgery or pharmaceutical preparations) to produce the same results that Natural Healing aims for.
In the West, medical schools usually do not teach Natural Healing methods. Doctors who express an interest in Natural Healing have to make an effort to research on such methods on their own. But a groundbreaking study done by Harvard Medical School physicians shows that, in the dawn of the 21st century, Americans consult alternative medicine practitioners 37 million times more than conventional doctors. This means there are more people in the US patronizing unconventional therapies than was previously known.
Natural Healing is definitely becoming more accepted into mainstream medical practice. Consider that (starting 1992), the Office of Alternative Medicine – which was set up by the National Institutes of Health in the US – has seen its budget increase by over four times during its first five years of existence. A group at the National Institutes of Health revealed in 1995 that different alternative practices (namely, relaxation techniques like yoga and controlled breathing; cognitive behavior therapy, biofeedback, hypnosis, and meditation) satisfactorily treated insomnia and chronic pain. In addition, the World Health Organization revealed that over 70% of people throughout the globe patronize health care methods perceived by Western doctors to belong to alternative healing.
Different kinds of alternative medicine are now being studied in some of the most respected university medical schools in America. Stanford University, Columbia University (of New York), Tufts University (of Boston), Georgetown University (of Washington, DC), Yale, and Harvard University are just some of these institutions which have begun to offer these studies in their curricula. Naturopathy (a field of medicine that advocates prescribing vitamin and mineral therapy, as well as other alternative therapies such as acupuncture) is currently the focus of three medical schools in the US – these would be the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (located in Portland, Oregon); the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (found in Tempe, Arizona); and Bastyr University of Naturopathic Medicine (based in Seattle, Washington.)
Natural Healing is especially attractive to women because of its philosophy of preventing illness in the first place (rather than curing disease.) The former head of field investigations of the Office of Alternative Medicine (housed at the National Institutes of Health) – Adriane Fugh-Berman, M.D. – commented that women have conventionally been the managers of their family’s health which explains why they are drawn to Natural Healing methods. In addition, since Natural Healing espouses gentle practices that are safe to use, women feel comfortable using such practices.
So don’t be surprised if Natural Healing becomes more popular in the near future – as we progress further into the 21st Century.

How bad do you want something? Can you almost taste and feel it? Do you imagine that it’s already beside you, nestling comfortably under the crook of your arm?
If you wish for something that your heart desires, then think really hard… and it might just come true. If one adds concentration and feelings, it becomes a great creative power that makes things happen.
Creative visualization is not just about positive thinking. It is the ability to use one’s imagination to greater heights, to see into one’s mind an exciting reality. It has been used in several different forms, usually subconsciously or unconsciously throughout a person’s lifespan. Many great people in the past have known about it, used it to their advantage and in the process, helped made the world a better place to live in.
The brain is a powerful tool and should be utilized only for good. Creative visualization can transform one’s life from dull to dazzling. The idea will serve as a draft and the emotion provides the force to pursue reality. By thinking of the good things that you want to happen, a positive stream of energy is created, surrounding you inch by inch. This positive energy then solidifies and becomes reality.
There are many ways to go about this, but it is summarized in five easy to follow steps. The first step is to relax. Sit or lie in any position that will make you comfortable. Breathe deeply and rhythmically. Inhale and exhale slowly. Picture your tense muscles slowly relaxing. Unknot those tight bunches and arrange them in an orderly arrangement.
Second, set your highest ideal by picturing things that you want to happen. You are the master of your future so do this to the utmost of your ability. Conjure pictures with distinct colors and vibrant hues.
Third, focus on it as often as possible. Think of it all throughout the day to galvanize the process. The final step, and perhaps the most difficult one, is giving your thought a positive energy. Only allow optimism and no other negative feeling to rule your life. Negative energy will neutralize what you are trying to achieve.
There are several ways on how to use creative visualization in your life. You may use it to relieve almost any physical problem. For instance, in cases of pain, where one could imagine himself away from the hospital room, not in a drab hospital gown and without any tubes attached. Instead, he could see himself having a grand time in the Caribbean surrounded by the white sand and deep blue sea. A person who is on a diet may envision himself to have a fit and beautiful body. Some may use it to boost character or attitude. When a person views himself as poor, pathetic, idiotic or selfish — he may start to act that way. But the moment he sees himself as an intellectual, humorous and friendly, then he can begin to become that way. It may also improve one’s relationship by picturing an increase in harmony, appreciation, affection and closeness.
