As humans grow older, their metabolism gets slower. This affects one’s health, diet and also their hygiene. That is why it is important to know some tips on how to speed up this body process.
What is Metabolism?
When you eat, the cells in your body convert the fuel in the food into the energy that you need in order to perform your everyday tasks, from simply waking up to doing chores, thinking and growing.
The human body works like a machine, it needs to be recharged and maintained to be able to keep up with its duties. Metabolism enables your cells to grow and reproduce, keep them healthy and able to adapt to its environment. Such process is important to all life forms, if it stops, it would cause the life to end.
The Metabolic Rate
The term is synonymous to the rate your body burns calories. It is important to have more muscles in the body to have a higher metabolic rate.
Thus, explains why men, especially with the muscular body type, have higher metabolic rate than women. And it also proves why the metabolic rate slows down as people age.
Get Active
Letting your body work out, move and being active will surely help you develop more muscles that would, in turn, boost your metabolism.
There are days when you feel the need to be a bit indolent but you could keep up with your metabolism rate by getting into exercises to sweat it out and build up those needed muscles.
Being active will not only help one’s metabolic rate, it would most be useful for a person to be energized and ready for each day’s tasks.
Keep up with the coming rigorous days by staying fit while bearing in mind the importance of a higher metabolic pace.

Natural Healing is simpler than most people realize – it is the practice of
encouraging your body to heal itself of illness. Traditional Western medicine differs from Natural Healing in that it relies on invasive interventions (i.e. surgery or pharmaceutical preparations) to produce the same results that Natural Healing aims for.
In the West, medical schools usually do not teach Natural Healing methods. Doctors who express an interest in Natural Healing have to make an effort to research on such methods on their own. But a groundbreaking study done by Harvard Medical School physicians shows that, in the dawn of the 21st century, Americans consult alternative medicine practitioners 37 million times more than conventional doctors. This means there are more people in the US patronizing unconventional therapies than was previously known.
Natural Healing is definitely becoming more accepted into mainstream medical practice. Consider that (starting 1992), the Office of Alternative Medicine – which was set up by the National Institutes of Health in the US – has seen its budget increase by over four times during its first five years of existence. A group at the National Institutes of Health revealed in 1995 that different alternative practices (namely, relaxation techniques like yoga and controlled breathing; cognitive behavior therapy, biofeedback, hypnosis, and meditation) satisfactorily treated insomnia and chronic pain. In addition, the World Health Organization revealed that over 70% of people throughout the globe patronize health care methods perceived by Western doctors to belong to alternative healing.
Different kinds of alternative medicine are now being studied in some of the most respected university medical schools in America. Stanford University, Columbia University (of New York), Tufts University (of Boston), Georgetown University (of Washington, DC), Yale, and Harvard University are just some of these institutions which have begun to offer these studies in their curricula. Naturopathy (a field of medicine that advocates prescribing vitamin and mineral therapy, as well as other alternative therapies such as acupuncture) is currently the focus of three medical schools in the US – these would be the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (located in Portland, Oregon); the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (found in Tempe, Arizona); and Bastyr University of Naturopathic Medicine (based in Seattle, Washington.)
Natural Healing is especially attractive to women because of its philosophy of preventing illness in the first place (rather than curing disease.) The former head of field investigations of the Office of Alternative Medicine (housed at the National Institutes of Health) – Adriane Fugh-Berman, M.D. – commented that women have conventionally been the managers of their family’s health which explains why they are drawn to Natural Healing methods. In addition, since Natural Healing espouses gentle practices that are safe to use, women feel comfortable using such practices.
So don’t be surprised if Natural Healing becomes more popular in the near future – as we progress further into the 21st Century.

No one on this earth is devoid of inner conflicts. True, there are a lucky few who have escaped having parents who screwed them up, but they still have inner conflicts nonetheless. It is a common notion in sociology, history, and even in modern psychobabble that the past affects the present. But is it really just psychobabble? Does Psychodynamic Therapy really work? Would it work on you?
Psychodynamic Therapy was developed as a modified version of Psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis was developed by the oft-mentioned and highly notorious Sigmund Freud. You may have heard of him when people refer to sex drives, but his theories were more than that.
Psychoanalysis is the process where the therapist lets you talk and talk and talk, while he probes and tries to understand you and tries to let you understand for yourself how the events in the past shape your inner climate in the present. The only difference with Psychodynamic Therapy from Psychoanalysis is that Psychodynamic Therapy does not involve a heavy emphasis on dream analysis and symbolism.
Yes it’s true that the past experiences influence your current attitudes. You may have a pattern of tuning out your wife when she nags because she reminds you of your mother when she does that. Or you may be overly affectionate with your sons because your father never hugged you when you were young.
When we were in our teens, we experienced a lot of conflicts because of the changes inside us. It became worse for us when our parents would offend us in their attempt to discipline us. This hurt, this pain, sometimes get locked in the deepest corners of our mind in a process called repression. This is what Psychodynamic Therapy seeks to recover and eventually make you understand, with the ultimate goal of freeing you from toxic emotions and unhealthy patterns.
Psychodynamic Therapy does not stop the moment you understand yourself. That is only the start. The goal of the process is to use this understanding to bring yourself to a place of healing. Understanding is step one. Accepting that these happened is step two. Processing your feelings, reconciling yourself to these events and making steps to change your patterns form the rest of the equation.
Psychodynamic Therapy may not be recommended for everyone by the therapists, but I believe that taking the concepts within the theories behind it and applying it for self-healing can be an enriching experience. To be able to metamorphose into a better person, you must know and understand yourself. Psychodynamic Therapy can show you how.

We know that everybody has habits. Some of them are bad. Some of them are not that bad. The problem is how to get rid of them if they are a common part of our life. But even if we have a use for them, they still badger us and negatively affect our life.
Luckily, there are ways to get rid of your bad habits, if you have strength to do that. Sometimes we need just the boost and knowledge of the right direction. Below I listed the common bad habits and some basic ways, that I learned, how to get rid of them.
Smoking – One of the most common bad habits that harm our health. Today, there are a lot of ways to quit smoking. Stores are full with all kinds of nicotine patches, special gums, super absorbed filters, and pills. Joining the support group can be a very helpful way to quit smoking. Some anxious people are getting help from hypnosis. But the most important thing is that you must have strong desire to get rid of this bad habit.
Swearing - spontaneous cursing is a very rude and embarrassing habit. People that have it are in fact suffering from it by themselves. One way to get rid of this habit is to try replacing bad words with similar sounding good, common words. You can play a little game with yourself, pay a dollar every time that the bad word has been said or present yourself with a gift for every curse-free day. Try it; some people have been very successful with this technique.
Spitting – This is a bad habit that is hard to quit. People that have it understand how disgusting it is but some of them can’t do anything about it. The main suggestion is: carry tissue papers or napkins with you all the time so you can spit it out and put it in the trash when you have a chance. Also, the same is with swearing, you can use the reward and punishment game.
Talking with your mouth full – This is a very common habit, an age old rule that parents always try to teach children. “Don’t talk with your mouth full…” It is both bad-mannered and irritating. To stay away from it, ask your family and friends to remind you every time that it happens.
Nail biting – Some people do this when they are nervous or very concentrated on something. Some doctors consider this as a sign of insecurity or tension. But no mater what they say, first of all it doesn’t look good in public and the second it ruins your nails, teeth, and brings dirt and bacteria into your mouth. To stop it, use spatial anti-nail biting polishes. You can buy them in any drug store. They have a bitter taste and prevent nail biting. There is some recommendation to using gloves but personally I don’t thing it would be comfortable, especially in summer.
Gossiping – Bigmouths are for sure irritating and also, this bad habit is still another popular one in society. Just imagine how much harm the gossiping did to all of us. To prevent gossiping, you must keep that person busy so that their mind would be off rumors. To those who have that problem, experts suggest to find a nice hobby or to do useful jobs instead. That can be good material for discussions.
Constant complaining – This is considering an immature type of bad habit. It can be so annoying to people around you. To stop complaining, a person must learn to see the bright side of things, the glass half full. Find what is good in every situation. People that like to complain need to constantly think of what to say before saying it.
Procrastination – This is a bad habit that cracked many lives and kept a lot of people from being successful. To prevent procrastination, take some time management classes, learn how to keep schedulers and use organizers. Don’t forget to reward yourself if you accomplished some task on time!
Showing off – Being obsessed with your own abilities and possessions is another annoying bad habit that some people have. Sadly, there are a lot of people that don’t want to realize that they have that problem. First of all that person needs to realize that they are arrogant. They have to understand that you don’t have to impress people all the time.

Self hypnosis is a method to relax independently, without any help from a psychotherapist. Additionally, it is also a skill to quickly adjust to any new situations.
For an actor is important to have the ability to quickly adjust to the role before he appears on stage, for a sportsmen before the start of the game, for a pilot before the flight.
This skill will help us better focus on the test, better drive a car, concentrate while giving a public speech, and in many other cases in our lives. If you will become the master of self hypnosis then you will be able to quickly remove pressure and stress from yourself. There will be enough 15-20 minutes for you to have a rest and restore your strength. You can also learn to relieve pain without pills.
Here are the seven basic exercises:
1. Exercise # 1 “Breath”.
Get into a comfortable position (lie or sit down); close your eyes; reflexively, as from the side, watch your breath, try to not control it.
This instruction looks very simple but it is not always easy to accomplish it.
Sometimes there is a temptation to extend a breath because during the exhalation the relaxation and rest is deeper. But it inevitably involves the deep breath breaking the harmony of the self hypnosis process.
2. Exercise # 2 “Weight”.
Get into a comfortable position (lie or sit down) in “a driver position”; close your eyes, relax, passively, concentrate on the calmness. Then stay still and weakened, passively, concentrate on a weight on your right hand. Passively, sense this weight until you are tired of doing it.
While repeating this exercise the weight will be felt in others parts of your body too. Passively, sense it. Don’t try to speed up the feeling of this weight with your growing strong will. Any internal work will interfere with the occurrence of the self hypnosis condition - the special form of trance controllable by you.
If you exercise every day for 15-20 minutes then in two weeks you will be able to make those feeling of weight in all your body easily. After a while this weight will be replaced with lightness by itself. You will notice that you don’t feel your body for some time at all. Don’t be afraid of it.
3. Exercise # 3 “Heat”
Arrange your hands so that they have are turned with palms facing each other, close your eyes, relax, and concentrate on calmness and heat which comes from your palms.
After you catch that heat, bring your palms to your cheeks. Feel that heat on your cheeks that is coming from your palms.
Your can increase the temperature of your hands’ skin to 2-3 degrees just by passive concentration of your mind. Warm up your hands before doing this exercise otherwise it won’t work. While you are exercising the heat will spread all over your body. When it happens, consider that you accomplished this exercise.
4. Exercise # 4 “Solar plexus”
Close your eyes, relax, concentrate on the heat in the depth of the top part of your stomach. Imagine that you have a sun there. To get comfortable with the previous exercise, you are capable of concentrating passively on the heat of your body. The exercise “solar plexus” allows you to move that heat to any internal part of your body. The concentration on heat in your stomach normalizes the activity of parts of your digestion system. But this exercise is prohibited if you have any inflammations in the belly cavity, bleedings, or tumors.
5. Exercise # 5 “Pulse”.
Sit down conveniently, relax, and close your eyes. Arrange your hands so that they have been turned with palms to each other, put the fingers of both hands together, feel on the tips of your fingers a pulsation that is caused by your hand.
From this exercise the pulsation will be felt in the other parts of your body too. Consider that the exercise is accomplished when you learn to feel the pulsation in your hands and other parts of your body.
6. Exercise # 6 “Cooling Your Forehead”.
Close your eyes and relax. Passively concentrate on the cooled air that is adjoining your forehead.
This exercise allows raising the intellectual capacity of your mind and removing a headache. Do not aspire to feel a strong cold in your forehead; it can cause a spasm in your brain. The cool must be light.
7. Exercise # 7 “Calmness”.
This last exercise, it is necessary to learn only after you are comfortable with all the previous ones.
Get into a comfortable position (lie or sit down) in “a driver position”; close your eyes, relax. Make the “breath”, “weight”, and “heat” exercises first, then passively concentrate on the calmness. Leave your self hypnosis by using the “cool your forehead “exercise.
Don’t force yourself to the “necessary” condition. The real effect comes only with passive concentration. Not trying to force what does not exist yet is the strength that creates the calmness in pursuit after it.
Those seven exercises are the basis of self hypnosis training. By learning them you will make the first step in the process of adjusting yourself to everything, learn to overcome easily and confidently various, even extreme, vital situations.

To understand the nature of self hypnosis is hard, because it is almost always merged with other, more obvious forces. We can relay on it, but we can’t calculate it. Two ill people with the same disease are taking the same medicine selected by the same experienced doctor. One person gets better, another gets worse…
Of course, we can think that is because those two different people have different body chemistry, different reactions to this medicine or maybe different mental capacity. One person believes strongly in the treatment and the other does not…
Maybe, one became better only for a moment, by luck, and it happened to be enough that the force of self hypnosis boosted and created the positive chain of reaction and with another person the opposite happened…
From the experiences of the experts that I talked to, I know that self hypnosis is capable of both strengthening and weakening the action of medicine to the body and mind. Of course self hypnosis can’t prevent the effect of enormous, destructive-toxic doses of medicine. But if there is even a slight chance, it must be used.
Self hypnosis helps when the question is: “either one way – either another”, when a bowl of weights are balanced. Self hypnosis action must be preliminary. It must have time to settle in the subconsciousness, to mobilize resources, to develop the chain of reaction before the sickness takes over the body.
I read in a research paper that some people behave improperly when they are drunk not only because they overdosed but also because they don’t want or aren’t able to prepare themselves with self hypnosis, which with the same dose of the alcohol would keep them in good condition and in appropriate behavior.
Almost every person who drinks alcohol often knows the fact that it is possible to prepare yourself in advance. Perhaps because of that ability, to hypnotize yourself before the party, it is considered a skill to drink and not to get drunk. (Note: It doesn’t mean that I approve of habitual drinkers.)
Here is another useful thing for self hypnosis: cold, virus, and infection.
The person is still healthy, but about to catch a cold or communicates with a sick person. The chance to get very sick is high. A question: would this person get sick or not?
The cause and effect of the body and mind mechanisms are too complicated. It is almost impossible to know why a person got sick or why not. But I know for sure, as bad as I can have a cold or was in contact with very sick person, I will never get sick if I prepared myself with intensive self hypnosis. Virus and flu don’t stick to me. And the main thing is: do not miss the moment…
One thing I understood correctly. You can’t oblige a person to be not sick, but he can oblige himself. Very often the opposite case happens: the person gets sick in an absolutely inopportune time, when he can’t afford to be sick at all. It is an absurd condition. I met some people that can get sick when it is necessary for them. Believe me, they aren’t faking.
A while ago I read an article that had an interesting thought related to our subject. The average human life today is about 73 years long and according to the article it because of the result of the mass human self hypnosis. People believe that is how long they can live today and that is why they live that much. If the same people will live in society where is common to live, say, 150 years, they will live that much. This idea is not that extreme. Of course getting old is a multi complex process with a lot of irreversible and unmanageable mind and body changes that are genetically programmed. But we all know that the mental force which we call “will to live” plays a huge role too.
How quick does a mentally broken person age and how confident in their good health and the necessity to live longer are the people who live a long life. Science is still unsure what comes first, the life energy as the result of self hypnosis or the self hypnosis – life energy. I think it isn’t as important as far as one supports another.
